DESCUBREN UNA TABLILLA DE LA ERA DEL ANTIGUO TESTAMENTO

La tablilla registra un tratado - o alianza - entre Asaradón, rey del Imperio Asirio y un regente secundario que reconoció el poder asirio. El tratado se ratificó en 672 A.C. entre elaboradas ceremonias celebradas en la ciudad real asiria de Nimrud (antigua Kalhu). En el texto, el gobernante se compromete a reconocer la autoridad del sucesor de Esarjadón, su hijo Asurbanipal. Una de las razones por las que se hicieron estos tratados es que el padre de Asaradón fue asesinado por un hermano. Así que reunió a todos los gobernantes en el imperio asirio uniéndolos a estos tratados para evitar una crisis política. Es un documento muy complejo de manejar y sofisticado que anticipa todas las posibilidades que puedan surgir. Esta escrito en un lenguaje altamente formulado muy similar en forma y estilo a la historia de la alianza de Abraham con Dios en la Biblia hebrea, dice el arqueólogo Timothy Harrison de la Universidad de Toronto.

Los investigadores esperan recopilar información acerca de las relaciones imperiales de Asiria con Occidente durante un período crítico, a principios del siglo VII A.C. Esto marcó el surgimiento de los frigios y otras potencias rivales en las tierras altas de Anatolia – ahora Turquía - a lo largo de la frontera norte-occidental del imperio asirio, y coincidió con la monarquía dividida del Israel bíblico.

La tablilla, que estaba rota en pedazos, mide 43x28 centímetros, con 650 y 700 pequeñas líneas escritas. Aún así, los pedazos se encontraban en un solo lugar. Decenas de tablillas similares fragmentadas estaban esparcidas.

"Muchos de nuestros valores sociales modernos tienen raíces antiguas", dijo Timothy Harrison profesor de arqueología de la Universidad de Toronto y director de Proyecto Arqueológico Tayinat (“TAP” siglas en ingles). "Es importante para iluminar nuestra historia antigua, descubrir quiénes somos y dónde podríamos estar yendo."

La excavación, cerca de la orilla oriental del Mar Mediterráneo a unos 300 kilómetros al norte de Damasco, ha dejado al descubierto un templo o santuario religioso con columnas finamente talladas, escaleras monumentales y otros restos de un poderoso reino destruido por los invasores asirios en el 738 A.C.
